Overnight railway work, Barnt Green Station.

Dear Resident,

 I am writing to let you know that we will soon be undertaking maintenance work on the railway near to your property. The team will be carrying out essential surveys to enable the design of the lifts at Barnt Green station.

The team will be using small powered hand tools, concrete drills, angle grinder, towers and lights in order to complete these surveys. I’m sorry if you are disturbed by this work in any way but please be assured, we will do our best to keep disruption to a minimum.

This work will take place between:

12:25am and 8:50am on Saturday 2 October 2021

12:25am and 8:50am from Monday 4 October until Wednesday 6 October 2021

12:25am and 8:50am on Saturday 9 October 2021

12:25am and 8:50am on Saturday 16 October 2021

12:25am and 8:50am on Saturday 23 October 2021

We will be accessing the work via Barnt Green station, Barnt Green, Birmingham B45 8JZ. There will also be welfare vans located on the station car park throughout the work.

We have to work at times that cause the least disruption to passengers and train services. We’re sorry that this means the work has to take place overnight and at weekends, which may impact you.

We know that any disruption is frustrating, but we will make every effort to minimise this as much as possible. Our teams will be briefed regularly on the importance of working responsibly where you live.

Worcestershire County Council – Viewpoint Survey

Your chance to shape public services where you live

Worcestershire County Council is giving residents the opportunity to join a panel and have their say on what they think about how council services are run where they live.

Residents in the county who are 18 or over are invited to join ‘WCC Viewpoint’ the residents’ panel for research and engagement and will be asked to complete one short survey a year.

Panel members are sometimes invited to take part in other surveys, focus groups or workshops, but this is completely optional.

The council is particularly keen to hear from younger members of the community to ensure the views of all age groups are taken into consideration.

Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Corporate Services and Communication, Councillor Adam Kent said: “This is a great opportunity for members of the public to get involved and share their views on what they really think about how council services are run and to give us their opinions on other local issues.

“Following on from the success of our Viewpoint panel in previous years, we would now like to invite more residents from all walks of life to join in and tell us what they think. Worcestershire County Council is committed to reviewing and improving how its services are delivered to ensure the best outcomes for its residents.”

Severn Trent – Works on Hewell Road 1 – 3 June 2021

We’re improving your supply of wonderful water…
• We carried out some vital improvement work in your area in Summer 2019
• We were unable to abandon the old water main at the time due to engineering issues
• We plan to return to carry out a trial hole to see if we can abandon the old water main at a different point in the road.
 
Why we’ve been doing this work – We’re committed to making sure our customers receive a continuous supply of water now and in the future. So, we’re constantly checking the condition of our network and recognised that we needed to upgrade some of the water pipes in your area.
 
Important things to know – Work to renew a section of water main in Hewell Road started in Summer 2019. As part of this work, we needed to abandon the old section of water main. We were unable to do this at the time due to engineering difficulties with some of the valves at the junction with Sandhills Lane. We are now returning to see if we are able to complete the abandonment of the old water main by making a connection further along Hewell Road. Initially we need to determine if this location is suitable, by carrying out a trial hole to check the ground conditions and location of existing pipework. From the results of the trial hole, we will be able to determine if this is possible and if so, schedule in the work. Once we are at this stage, we will write to you again to advise of dates, durations and traffic management.
 
To allow us to carry out the trial hole quickly and safely we will have temporary two-way traffic lights in place, which will be manually controlled between 07:30hrs – 09:30hrs and 15:30hrs – 18:30hrs. This is to ensure your safety and the safety of our workforce. The approximate location of the trial hole is shown on the rear diagram, along with the expected duration and traffic management.

Although it is really important, we also know work on this scale can, at times, be inconvenient. Please rest assured that we and our contract partner Amey, will be doing everything we can to minimise disruption and get the work finished as quickly as we can.
 
Will my water supply be interrupted?
If we plan to interrupt your water supply during these works, we will let you know in advance.

Vacancy for Members of the Independent Remuneration Panel

Are you interested in how Local Government works and what Councillors are paid?

We are seeking applications from people living or working within the following Local Government areas – Bromsgrove, Malvern Hills, Redditch, Worcester, or Wychavon to fill vacancies on the Independent Remuneration Panel.

The Panel recommends to each District Council in Worcestershire the level of allowances to be paid to Councillors and other non-elected people such as co-opted members. The aim of the Panel is to ensure that the setting of such allowances is open to robust, independent, and local scrutiny.

If successful you will join a Panel consisting of five members. The Panel currently meets up to 6 times a year for up to 2 hours at a time with occasional ad-hoc meetings for IRP related projects.

Although some knowledge of local government would be an advantage it is not essential as the Panel receives support and advice from council officers. Panel members should be able to approach issues with an open mind and undertake applicable research.

The term of office is four years from July 2021 which may be renewed.

Travel and subsistence expenses are reimbursed, including childcare if appropriate. An honorarium of £700 per year is also paid.

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice – ‘Ride the Reservoir’ cycle sportive – Sunday 18 July 2021

Birmingham St Mary’s Hospice is hosting the annual ‘Ride the Reservoir’ cycle sportive through the Worcestershire countryside on Sunday 18th July (subject to the ‘roadmap’ dates remaining as proposed).

The route will pass through Barnt Green. Plesae see details of the event and the approximate timings as well as outlining the arrangements in terms of route signage and marshalling.

  • ‘Ride the Reservoir’ is a non-competitive, mass participation cycling event which is being organised and delivered in accordance with British Cycling, the National Governing Body of cycling, and their Non-competitive Guidelines.
  • There will be no road closures for the event, which starts and finishes at Newman University, Bartley Green (shown by a white triangle on a green square on the map)
  • The cyclists should pass through your area between 10.15 and 15.45
  • Route signage (black arrows on a yellow background) will be installed where appropriate during the week before the event and taken down either immediately after the cyclists have passed or in the next few days
  • Warning signs to raise awareness of the event will also be installed where necessary at selected locations on roads crossing and/or joining the route
  • On the day, there will be marshals at key locations on the route to guide and encourage cyclists as well as warning other road users of the event
  • It is hoped for participation from 700 cyclists.
  • As the event is of a non-competitive nature, the riders’ ability will vary. Riders will follow the rules and regulations of the Highway Code.
  • There are 75km and 100km routes which overlap for most of the 75km route, with a longer loop in the south eastern section to create the 100km route.

‘Ride the Reservoir 2021’ is special – it will be the first large scale participation event since March 2020 for St Mary’s Hospice – It is hoped that it will be a huge success, and that communities along the route will come out and encourage the cyclists. The route is challenging and involves some long climbs over the Clent and Lickey Hills, so please give the riders your support. We also hope that the signage will be respected, the event should raise around £30,000 towards the care of patients with life limiting illnesses, and their families, in Birmingham and Sandwell, so whilst it is recognised it may cause a little short term inconvenience, it is in aid of an excellent cause.

The event also offers the opportunity for communities to get involved any assistance would be welcome from signage installation to marshalling as local knowledge and support brings an extra dimension to the event, so, if you would like to be involved in any way, please contact myself or the route co-ordinator, Richard Green –
